Render of special American Airlines centennial livery

With only six months until its Centennial anniversary, American Airlines is rolling out a special livery that honors its past while eyeing the future.

Starting in November, this eye-catching design will grace a Boeing 777-300ER, registered as N735AT. In addition to the custom livery, the aircraft also receives a deluxe interior upgrade.

A Design That Honors History and Innovation

“American has thoughtfully chosen a design that evokes our rich history while looking ahead to our next 100 years,” said Ron DeFeo, American’s Chief Communications Officer. “Throughout American’s history, ‘Flagship®’ has always been recognized as our premium travel experience”

“Our renewed focus on the customer experience is making premium travel better than ever across all aspects of our customers’ travel journeys. Painting the original Flagship® design on our Flagship® aircraft is a powerful way to honor that legacy while embracing the future.”

This livery mixes classic vibes with modern style. At its heart is the airline’s signature Silver Eagle® paint. You’ll spot it on over 1,600 aircraft in American’s mainline and regional fleet today.

Iconic Details Bring the Past to Life

The custom livery boasts bold orange lightning bolts streaking across both sides of the fuselage. They first lit up the skies nearly 90 years ago on the Douglas DC-3. Back then, the DC-3 wowed passengers with American’s first premium flights.

Now, this Boeing 777-300 takes that magic to new heights—flying to dream spots like Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, and more.

Fun fact: When American got its DC-3s in the 1930s, they named them after served cities. Keeping that tradition alive, this beauty is dubbed “Flagship DFW”—a nod to the airline’s massive home hub in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Toward the tail, spot a classic roundel with the eagle linking the world. It’s a symbol from American’s early days. Today, it fits perfectly: American flies to over 350 global spots, runs more flights, and carries more passengers than any other airline. All since that first hop in 1926!

Showcasing the Flagship® Experience Onboard

Since the 1930s, American has delivered top-tier Flagship® service. It started with coast-to-coast U.S. routes. Now, it will roll out on long-haul international trips too.

The Flagship® lounges and Flagship® Business seats will just be the start. Next year, things get even better, as American kicks off a refresh on its Boeing 777-300 fleet.

That will mean the rollout of Flagship Suite® seats for all. New features debuted this summer include Flagship Suite® seats, Premium Economy, and upgraded Main Cabin.

Key Highlights of the Upgrades

  • Flagship Suite® Seats: American’s first business class with privacy doors, wireless charging pads, and a unique chaise lounge option. Plus, an adjustable headrest pillow for ultimate chill.
  • Premium Economy: First U.S. airline with wireless charging here! New headrest wings, calf rests, and footrests mean max comfort.
  • Main Cabin: Enjoy U.S.-first 4K QLED screens, USB-C, and AC power on international flights.

Looking Ahead

Come next year, refreshed 777-300s like “Flagship DFW” will boast 70 Flagship Suite® seats and 44 Premium Economy seats. It seems the theme of the carrier’s centennial celebration could be described as history meets high-tech!

This centennial livery marks a key waypoint for American Airlines. From DC-3 pioneers to global giants, the journey continues.
